Dar Ben Turkia is a stylish boutique hotel located within a historic courtyard house in the heart of the Tunis medina, a 10-minute walk from the Zitouna Mosque and the Bab Al Bahar.

This high-end eight-suite property has been lovingly restored to preserve its original architectural features. Behind an unassuming doorway, you are welcomed by the rich scent of jasmine that wafts its way through the arcaded corridors with their whitewashed walls. Colourful Tunisian tilework has been used throughout the guesthouse; a playing fountain assists guests’ transition from the busy medina to an unseen world of calm and tranquillity.

The heart of the house (Dar) is the Sahn, an open-air courtyard surrounded by rooms that once served as the social centre of the house. Dar Ben Turkia’s spacious air-conditioned guestrooms blend modern with traditional Tunisian decor and are finished to a high standard. All come with a Bedroom, a sitting area, and a kitchenette. The two-bedroom Mezzanine Suite has twin beds in the second bedroom and is ideal for families.

Facilities include a hammam (bookable on request) and a garden roof-terrace offering fine views over the ancient lanes and minarets of the Old City. A lift connecting all floors is a surprising luxury in the Tunis medina. An à la carte breakfast is included and can be served in your suite, on the roof terrace or in the courtyard. Dar Ben Turkia doesn’t have a restaurant; however, the hotel staff are always on hand to recommend their favourite addresses in the neighbourhood, ensuring that you enjoy an authentic culinary experience in Tunis.
