The Oman Family Holiday with Teenagers combines a fabulous Arabian adventure with time to relax by the pool and beach. An ideal destination between September and May, this exciting week-long holiday in Oman is privately guided throughout, giving you quality time with your family and the opportunity to share the excitement together.

While travelling through the Sultanate and enjoying the warm weather and striking scenery, there is no shortage of fun to be had. Highlights include snorkelling with turtles in the Damaniyat Islands, cycling through an oasis of swaying date palms, driving off-road along a dramatic wadi, wild camping amongst the dunes of the Wahiba Sands under a star-lit sky, and wandering through exotic frankincense-infused souqs filled with locals in their long flowing robes.

On either side of these thrilling adventures, your Oman holiday includes time to sunbathe and relax in Muscat – first at the ultra-cool and upbeat W Hotel, then at the Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah where the private beach, extensive lagoon swimming pools, lazy river and wide range of dining choices are always extremely popular. Day 1 Arrive in Muscat

Land at Muscat International Airport under your own arrangements (if you would like a quote for international flights, please ask us). On arrival, you will be met and transferred to your centrally located hotel overlooking the Gulf of Oman. After checking in, the remainder of the day will be at leisure.

Day 2 Muscat

Discover the Omani capital of Muscat, one of the most interesting and attractive cities in the Arabian Peninsula. The privately guided tour starts with a photo stop at the Royal Opera House. Next, visit the exquisite Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, then continue to Muttrah where you will wander through the busy fish market, explore the atmospheric souq, and climb up to Muttrah fort for a view over the harbour. Your sightseeing continues in Old Muscat where you will see the twin Portuguese forts of Jalali and Merani (outside) and the Al Alam Palace (outside). This afternoon will be at leisure to relax and enjoy the facilities at the W Hotel.

Day 3 Damaniyat Islands, Wadi Fanja, arrive Nizwa

Start the day with a (shared) speedboat excursion from Al Mouj to the Damaniyat Islands nature reserve (25 minutes), a snorkelling hot spot where you can enjoy the coral reefs, swim with green turtles, and spot colourful fish. On returning to the mainland, drive inland to Fanja where you will experience the thrill of an off-road drive along beautiful palm-lined wadi before continuing your journey to Oman’s cultural capital of Nizwa.

Day 4 Nizwa and Jabal Shams hike

Visit Nizwa’s colourful souq and the magnificent 17th-century castle this morning, then drive to Jabal Shams, Oman’s highest mountain, where you will set off on foot with your guide along the dramatic Balcony walk (2 to 3 hours). The route follows a goat track along the rim of Wadi Nakhr – Oman’s spectacular ‘Grand Canyon’ – and offers spectacular views at every turn. A pool of water where you may swim is the prize at the end of the hike. Return to Nizwa late this afternoon.

Day 5 Al Hamra (cycle ride), arrive at Wahiba Sands

A relaxed guided cycling tour (2 hours) of the beautiful oasis and mud-brick village of Al Hamra will mark the start of today’s sightseeing. The route will introduce you to the timeless scenery of interior Oman and take you along the quiet roads and exotic date palm plantations surrounding the village. Next, visit a 400-year-old house turned living museum where you will learn about the traditional way of life of the villagers, then drive to the spectacular Wahiba Sands where you will leave civilisation behind you and pitch your wild camp amongst the towering dunes. After sunset, witness the incredible sight of the sky at night.

Day 6 Wahiba Sands, Wadi Abraeen, arrive Muscat

After breakfast in the Wahiba Sands, enjoy two fun and adrenaline-fuelled desert activities – sandboarding and dune bashing. Then, take the scenic coastal road north towards Muscat, breaking your journey to explore Wadi Abraeen – a stunning canyon with towering cliffs, swaying date palms and crystal-clear pools of water. On arrival in Muscat, check in at your beachfront hotel.
