Where to visit in October

October is an exciting time to visit Rajasthan and northern India as the edge of the summer heat will have passed, and it is possible to witness several colourful festivals. After the monsoon rains have passed, the skies over the Himalayas are at their clearest. An October holiday is thus perfect for visiting Bhutan, Nepal and Sikkim in North East India. Closer to home, Oman is an ideal destination to consider for the October half-term, as are Jordan, Israel, and Egypt. Tunisia and Turkey are two other wonderful destinations for an October holiday.

Known as the festival of lights, Diwali is celebrated across India, while Dusshera is celebrated in Kolkata. Gangtey and Thimpu Tshechus make October a fabulous month to visit Bhutan, and in Egypt, the dawn sunlight ushers in the second Abu Simbel Sun Festival of the year. Celebrations continue in Georgia when the streets of Tbilisi pulsate with the city’s most important event, Tbilisoba.
