Bodrum

Bodrum is Turkiye’s most sophisticated resort and is situated on a beautiful bay on the Aegean Sea. The whitewashed town is dominated by the Castle of Peter and is a mecca for yachting, while the surrounding wooded peninsula offers beautiful Mediterranean vistas, quiet bays, sleepy villages, and crystal clear waters as well as Turkiye’s best beach resorts.

Bodrum was known as Halicarnassus in classical times when the town was famous as being both the birthplace of Herodotus (the father of history) and the location of (the now almost non-existent) Tomb of Mausolus – one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The town’s waterfront is dominated by the Castle of St. Peter, built by the Knights of St. John in 1406 and is now home to the excellent Museum of Underwater Archaeology. Bodrum’s waterfront is lined by cafes and restaurants and is hemmed in by luxury yachts and traditional sailing gulets which use the town as the springboard for the popular Blue Cruises along the Aegean Coast. A wide selection of retail opportunities are available in Bodrum. During the summer months, this chic resort becomes very lively after sunset with visitors seeking out the resort’s finest dining and nightspots.

The Bodrum peninsula, with its blue flag beaches, windmills, quiet bays and beautiful scenery is well worth exploring. The sleepy village of Gumusluk is one of the most attractive in the region and a wonderful place to come and watch the sunset or enjoy a meal at one of the simple seafood restaurants lining the waterfront. It is also possible to discover the Bodrum peninsula from the sea. Gulet cruises (private charters) are a quintessential Aegean experience and are highly recommended for a day or more. Another attractive sightseeing option from Bodrum is to take a day excursion to the nearby Greek island of Kos.
