Overlooking the Roman ruins of Baalbek
L’Annexe overlooks the stunning Roman ruins in Baalbek and is a traditional 19th-century Lebanese house converted into a five-room guesthouse. Run by the owners of Baalbek’s historic (but faded) Palmyra Hotel, the stone-built L’Annexe offers visitors a modest standard of accommodation combined with some creature comforts.
From the typically eastern arched windows, ensuite rooms combining antique Middle Eastern and Greek styles, colourful Arabian fabrics, and a shaded garden patio with outside seating, L’Annexe preserves the spirit of yesteryear.
Breakfast and complimentary Wi-Fi are included in L’Annexe’s daily room rate. Dinner (and more travel nostalgia) is available next door at the Palmyra Hotel, a building built in 1874 that has played host to the likes of Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany, Charles de Gaulle, Albert Einstein and George Bernard Shaw.
While L’Annexe in Baalbek isn’t for everyone, an overnight stay is a unique experience on account of the property’s unrivalled location combined with the character of the building and the charm of its hosts.
