Heritage property owned and managed by the luxurious Aman group of hotels

Within the walls of the historic Galle Fort, the exclusive Amanagalla, with its high ceilings, polished wooden floors and chandeliers, is woven out of a series of colonial buildings. Once the home of a Dutch Governor, then a billet for British officers, it was converted into the New Oriental Hotel in 1865.

Today owned and managed by the luxurious Aman group of hotels, Amangalla has been immaculately restored to its former glory. The 30 rooms and suites, stylishly furnished with period furniture and luxuriously appointed, are split into four categories, including ‘Bedrooms’, which are set close to the reception overlooking either the gardens or the historic church in the vicinity.

The ‘Chambers’ feature a separate living area and a bedroom and overlook the Fort ramparts, while the magnificent ‘Suites’ feature original floorboards dating back over 300 years and overlook the lush gardens, ramparts, or harbour.

The two-storey ‘Garden House’, with its private balcony, original antique furniture, spacious bedroom on the lower level, and sitting room with a daybed on the upper level, is ideal for honeymooners.

Facilities at the Amangalla include the opulent Dining room renowned for its fine cuisine and a daily-changing menu based on local produce; a world-class spa offering a range of treatments; and an outdoor pool and a library.
