Tour Overview
KNUCKLES MOUNTAIN RANGE • ELLA • HORTON PLAINS • ADAM’S PEAK • TANGALLE
Walking in Sri Lanka is a private tour that will enable you to discover the stunning natural beauty and diversity of the beautiful teardrop isle on foot. Trek through the night to the soaring summit of Adam’s Peak, said to be the very spot where Adam first stepped on Earth after being cast out of the Garden of Eden; strike out across the grasslands of the Horton Plains to see the roaring Baker’s Falls and the dramatic sheer precipice known as World’s End; hike into central Sri Lanka’s rugged Knuckles Mountain Range; and explore Ella on foot, considered ‘the place’ for a walking holiday in Sri Lanka!
The tour starts in Colombo with an afternoon walk through Colombo’s historic Fort district before travelling inland for three nights at the charming Rangala House on the edge of the Knuckles Mountain Range. Here, go beyond the usual tourist trail as you trek through dense forests, terraced paddy fields, along rivers, and past tumbling waterfalls to reach the hidden villages of Meemure and Kumbukgolla, where life is lived with the greatest respect for nature. Along the way, enjoy picnic lunches and take a dip in the natural rock pools. Then, continue to picturesque Ella, where you will climb ‘Little Adam’s Peak’; trek up Ella Rock for breathtaking views and hike up to Lipton’s Seat to survey the manicured tea gardens just like Mr Thomas Lipton did!
Continue to Nuwara Eliya and trek through Horton Plains National Park to World’s End – a spectacular cliff face with a dramatic 900-metre drop to the undulating plains below. Then, continue to the village of Dalhousie, where you will conquer Adam’s Peak under a starry night sky before watching the sun rise over the spectacular Hill Country. Conclude your walking in Sri Lanka tour with three nights on the secluded Tangalle Coast and a climb up to the summit of the ancient Mulgirigala Rock Temple.

Later this afternoon, climb up to the top of Little Adam’s Peak. This is an easy trek passing through terraced tea fields before a series of winding steps lead you to the top of the peak. From the top, take in the glorious views of the surrounding landscape dominated by the famed Ella Rock.

Set off this morning on an invigorating hike up Ella Rock, which is a famous cliff located high above Ella town (the summit is about 3,300m above sea level) and offers spectacular views of the Hill Country. Later, proceed to a tea factory and learn first-hand about the journey of tea from leaf to cup before returning to your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure.
Day 9 Horton Plains National Park, arrive Adam’s Peak

Rise early and set off to Horton Plains National Park, renowned for its diverse landscapes, which range from marshes, and grasslands to misty mountains and waterfalls. An exciting trek through this park brings you to ‘World’s End’, which marks the edge of the Hill Country and where the plateau plunges almost vertically for nearly 900 metres. Along the way, spot endemic birds and a variety of animals, including barking deer, toque macaque and giant squirrel. Visit the beautiful Baker’s Falls before returning to your hotel.
