Originally a 300-year-old mansion of the Zamindar of Rajbari, The Rajbari Bawali is a gracious converted hotel that enjoys a peaceful setting by a lake in the village of Bawali and is an excellent base to discover rural West Bengal, as well as historic Kolkata, which is just over an hour away.

Although the original mansion was neglected and left to ruin after independence – the present owners, through ingenious restoration techniques, have transformed The Rajbari Bawali into a charming boutique hotel and have brought it up to date with modern comforts. Whilst the façade of the hotel with its red bricks and lime-rendered walls reveals The Rajbari Bawali’s original glory, the 30 spacious rooms and suites with high ceilings are elegantly furnished with antique reproductions, four poster beds, beautiful local artefacts and modern comforts, including giant, flat-screen TVs. The hotel’s public areas are equally remarkable, with ornate courtyards and balconies designed to offer glorious views of the lake nearby and the surrounding farmland.

Facilities at The Rajbari Bawali include a dining room serving flavours of Bengal as well as from around the world, an outdoor pool, a spa and a library. Activities on offer include bicycle rides through surrounding villages, cooking lessons with the resident Chef and guided village walks.
