Malji Ka Kamra

Malji Ka Kamra is a lovingly restored 1920s haveli (merchant house) that retains many of its original features, including the vibrant wall paintings, original doors and arches that reveal Mughal influences, as well as collonaded halls and verandas that reflect the effect of classic European style mansions. This converted hotel offers accommodation in 11 meticulously kept rooms and suites tastefully furnished with essential modern comforts. While the two corner rooms are small and modestly furnished, the other rooms and suites feature hand-made beds and original, untouched frescoes and offer a glimpse back in time.

Dining at Malji Ka Kamra is in the central covered hall where inviting local Rajasthani food prepared in a homemade style is provided. Private al fresco dining can be organised with advance notice. Activities on offer include a guided walk through the old town, a rural train safari combined with a tour of the old havelis in the neighbouring villages of Ramgarh and Fatehpur, and a camel-cart ride that concludes with a desert bonfire.

Locals from nearby villages staff the hotel, and while all the staff are friendly, courteous and eager to meet guests’ requirements, it is important to be aware that service standards are not always the same as elsewhere.
