Affordable, heritage-style property on the banks of the Ganges
On the banks of the sacred Ganges River, the affordable, heritage-style Guleria Kothi is perched on Guleria Ghat and serves as an excellent base from which to discover Varanasi. Originally built in the 18th century, this converted hotel has been superbly restored using local sandstone and features stone columns and beams to pay tribute to Varanasi’s riverfront architecture.
Accommodation comprises 15 comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms, with some overlooking the river and others the inner courtyard. At Guleria Kothi, delectable Indian cuisine is served in the rooftop restaurant. Please note that due to its position on the ghats, the hotel follows local tradition and does not serve meat or alcohol. Although this hotel is small, the terrace next to the rooftop restaurant is ideal for relaxing and watching life unfold along the river.
The hotel can only be accessed from the river, and arriving by traditional wooden boat is an experience in itself.
