In-demand luxury lodge in the Punakha Valley
One of the most sought-after and characterful of Bhutan’s luxury hotels, Amankora Punakha Lodge looks out over a timeless landscape of orchards and rice fields and is reached via a prayer flag festooned suspension bridge that spans the rushing Mo Chhu River.
The property’s focal point is a lovely Bhutanese farmhouse that was once the summer palace of a Je Khenpo (Chief Abbot of Bhutan). This beautiful whitewashed building is decorated with traditional wall paintings and houses a library, dining room, and a traditional altar room.
Outside, the intimate shaded courtyard has lovely views looking down to the Mo Chhu River and is the perfect place to relax with a drink or book. On warmer days, guests can choose to dine outside in the courtyard, and after sunset, this is where a crackling wood fire is lit, and cultural shows are performed.
The eight spacious open-plan suites are located within two double-storied modern whitewashed blocks made from packed earth and are identical to those of Amankora Paro.
Rooms feature a king-size bed, traditional wood-burning stove, twin vanities, banquette window seat, separate shower and toilet, and a terrazzo-club bathtub in the middle of the bathroom.
Guests staying at the Amankora Punakha Lodge can enjoy leisure facilities that include a tea pavilion, an intimate spa with two treatment rooms, a steam room, and an outdoor swimming pool.
