Dar Ben Gacim is a beautifully restored 300-year-old courtyard house located on a pretty lane in a quiet part of Tunis’ UNESCO World Heritage listed Medina. This charming well-run seven room guesthouse is considered one of the best heritage hotels in Tunis and offers guests the opportunity to gain an insight into the age-old daily life of its ancient commercial heart. On crossing the threshold of Dar Ben Gacem Pasha you step into an oasis of the 17th century. The restored courtyard is the focal-point of the property and is where breakfast is served. Guestrooms look over this beautiful central space and combine heritage with modernity and rustic charm. Within the rooms you’ll find high ceilings, period tilework, finely crafted woodwork, stucco work, and beautiful furniture; but also quiet air-conditioning, comfortable beds, fine linens, and adequate (on the small side) ensuite bathrooms. Appealing nooks and crannies that are made for relaxing with a good book or sipping a mint tea and enjoying your surroundings can be found throughout the property. A steep flight of stairs leads up to Dar Ben Gacim Pasha’s roof-top terrace – a fabulous place to relax and watch the sunset - which overlooks the roofs of the Medina. Dinner is available on request at Dar Ben Gacim Pasha if you let the staff know ahead of time in the morning, or you may choose to take a recommendation and dine at a local restaurant.
