Set amongst the dense mangrove forests and flourishing wildlife of Dutch Bay Island, ten minutes by boat off the coast of Kalpitiya, the peaceful Dutch Bay Resort is a boutique eco retreat. Inspired by Dutch colonial architecture, the resort’s 16 secluded chalets (some with private jetties), are elegantly designed and stylishly decorated. These comfortable spaces are comprised of an en-suite bathroom with an open to sky garden shower and a private deck that could be used for either private dining or relaxing massages. The Dutch Bay Island Resort offers both Sri Lankan cuisine and Western cuisine. Choose to dine in the restaurant, in the privacy of your chalet, or under the stars on the beach. Leisure facilities at Dutch Bay Resort include an outdoor swimming pool and a Spa. The quiet, unspoilt beach, is 20 minutes’ walk (or a short drive) from the resort and offers the opportunity to observe marine turtles during the season. For more active and adventurous guests, there is the option to explore the mangrove jungles on foot, go on a guided bird-watching trail, or take a boat into the deep sea for whale watching (possible between November and March). Guests should be aware that the pristine tropical vegetation at Dutch Bay Resort is also a haven for inhabitants from the natural world. Insects and lizards enter rooms and mosquitoes and fire ants can be found throughout the resort.
