Deep in the heart of the tea country, Mandira Bungalows, a collection of three authentic colonial bungalows, seeks to recreate the wonderful lifestyle of tea planters who once lived here and offer guests an experience that will conjure up the spirit of gracious colonial living. The three delightful bungalows, scattered around the quaint little town of Hatton in the hill country, have been sensitively restored and refurbished with modern comforts while remaining faithful to the original design and décor. Each of the converted bungalows feature between 3 and 4 comfortably furnished rooms and is fully staffed with its own team comprising of a resident manager, chef, butler and other support staff. Dining at Mandira Bungalows is inspired by the culinary wonders of plantation cooking. The bungalows, set apart from each other from anywhere between 3 to 10 miles, offer guests the opportunity to follow the tea trails and either trek or cycle between them. Guided walks exploring the tea plantation and both moderate and challenging walking and cycling trails are further attractions.
Strathdon Bungalow, Mandira Bungalows :
Surrounded by tall trees and wonderful exotic plants, Strathdon Bungalow was built in the early 1900s and is set within a magnificently laid-out garden with striking views of the valley below. Accommodation is in four relatively simple, yet tastefully furnished rooms; with high ceilings, open fireplaces and some with four-poster bed. The colonial character of the bungalow has been preserved while having been cleverly adapted to include essential modern-day comforts. Strathdon Bungalow also features a separate lounge equipped with satellite TV and DVD player and grand dining room.
Dickoya Bungalow, Mandira Bungalows:
Dickoya Bungalow is perched on a hillside overlooking a spectacular valley and was built at the turn of the 20th century by the Scottish Ceylon Tea Company. The expansive bungalow, set among scenic grounds in Dickoya estate, has four spacious elegantly decorated colonial style rooms. Some rooms have direct access to the beautiful garden, while others offer stunning views of the verdant hills and the gorgeous tea estate. Dickoya Bungalow features a spacious dining room and a cosy living room with period style furniture.
Craig Appin Bungalow, Mandira Bungalows:
Set among manicured gardens filled with flowering plants, Craig Appin was built nearly 100 years ago. The elegantly restored bungalow has four gracefully furnished rooms and suites that are appointed with period style furniture that evokes the ambience of times gone by. The bungalow’s cosy living room is equipped with TV and DVD player. Guests at Craig Appin Bungalow have the choice to dine either in the formal indoor dining room or in the garden overlooking the verdant hills carpeted with tea bushes - just as the planter’s did!
