Hill Rise

At an altitude of about 6,000 ft above sea level, on the edge of Lake Gregory in the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country, Hill Rise, is a stunning colonial bungalow with a picture-postcard perfect setting. Built by a Scottish tea planter in the late 19th century, the property is offered on an exclusive basis – making it excellent value if travelling with friends or family. The individually designed rooms are decorated in an elegant old-world style with muted creams and pastel tones. While the master bedroom features a separate living area and a working fire place, the three other rooms are well-equipped (no TV’s) and offer superb views of the manicured gardens and the lake. The generously sized living room has stylish furnishings and a relaxed atmosphere. Meals are usually a mix of local and western cuisine and served either in the formal dining room or in the garden. Guests are encouraged to accompany the Chef on his daily visit to the local market to source fresh, local produce from the region. An in-house masseur offers both traditional massages and reflexology treatments. Other facilities at Hill Rise include a library with a good selection of books, indoor board games and bicycles for guests to explore the surrounding countryside. Guests should be aware that Hill Rise doesn’t have a swimming pool.
