Set high above the town of Nuwara Eliya, within ten minutes’ walk of the century-old picturesque Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, Anilana Craigbank is a 160-year-old colonial bungalow that has been tastefully converted into a stylish boutique hotel. The bungalow, which is booked on an exclusive basis, has four spacious rooms, all with hardwood floors, fabric-lined walls, essential modern creature comforts and working fireplaces. The Master Suite enjoys the best location at the front of the villa and opens out on to the verandah. Communal areas include a plush living room and a dining room with a ten-seater dining table. Meals at Anilana Craigbank are prepared using locally sourced produce including herbs and vegetables from the hotel’s garden and feature both Sri Lankan and Western dishes. The bungalow is a wonderful base for discovering Nuwara Eliya and the surrounding area. For the more active there is tennis and snooker at the Hill Club, and golf at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. Nature lovers will enjoy visiting Victoria Park with its landscaped gardens and Himalayan migratory birds. Exploring Horton's Plains and the surrounding tea estates are other popular activities. Guests should be aware that Anilana Craigbank does not have a swimming pool or alcohol licence.
