Within the picturesque Pettiyagama tea estate in Sri Lanka’s alluring hill country, Taylor’s Hill, built by a British planter nearly 100 years ago, is an hour’s drive from Kandy. This converted planter’s residence, with its imposing stone façade is named after James Taylor, the pioneering Scotsman who introduced commercial tea production to Sri Lanka. The two-storey property enjoys a tranquil setting amidst manicured lawns and overlooks the surrounding hills. Combining luxurious elegance with comfort, the house features a stylish living room with a massive fireplace and comfy sofas, as well as a cozy sitting room and a TV room with a collection of DVDs. There is also a children’s play room and a dedicated snooker room. Each of the five individually designed rooms and suites are elegantly decorated and have superb views of either the mountains or the lovely gardens. The Taylor’s Hill kitchens prepare delicious Sri Lankan curries and Western cuisine. Afternoon tea with freshly-baked cakes and cookies is a speciality of the property and served in the gardens. Leisure facilities include an infinity-edge swimming pool, outdoor tennis court, badminton court, and croquet. Taylor’s Hill also offers guided walking trails through the surrounding tea estates and mountains, mountain biking and a Ceylon Tea experience with a visit to the neighbouring Loolecondra tea estate.
