Once the private residence of three Sri Lankan heads of state, Tintagel is a stylish boutique hotel in Colombo that retains the distinct colonial style and architectural traditions of old Ceylon, and hosted Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall during their visit to Sri Lanka in 2013. Tintagel’s elegant interiors feature antiques, period furniture and artwork. A beautiful marble fountain plays in the front courtyard, while the grand piano in the lobby further adds to the refined ambience. The new wing that was built to house some of the 10 individually designed suites, pool and Spa blends seamlessly with the original mansion. Each of the spacious, comfortably furnished suites opens out on to a private balcony or courtyard and is exquisitely decorated with sofas from Spain and Portugal, carpets woven in Kathmandu, antique mirrors from France and ceramic vases from The Netherlands. Sumptuous Sri Lankan and International cuisine is served al-fresco style at Tintagel’s outdoor restaurant, which is situated off the main lounge,while the intimate indoor restaurant serves enticing international cuisine. The Red Bar with its black leather lounging chairs serves exotic drinks with style. Other facilities at Tintagel include an outdoor pool, a small gym, library, and Spa offering a range of treatments and relaxing massages.
