Windermere River House

The Windermere River House is a small boutique-style hotel that enjoys a tranquil, rural setting on the banks of the River Periyar. This thoughtfully designed hotel is set amongst two acres of swaying coconut palms and is a convenient base to visit the Thattekad Bird Sanctuary (a 40-minute drive). The architecture and décor of Windermere River House are influenced by traditional Keralan designs and colonial-period plantation homes. Accommodation comprises of five individually decorated rooms that have been tastefully furnished using antique reproductions and designed to overlook the inviting pool. While rooms on the ground floor open out on to the lush gardens; the rooms on the upper floor open out on to a private balcony. At The Windermere River House, both traditional Keralan as well as western continental cuisine is served and guests can choose to either eat in the main dining room or on the verandah opening out on to the garden. Other facilities include a spacious living room with a small library and an outdoor pool set overlooking River Periyar. Guests should be aware that the Windermere River House doesn’t have an alcohol licence but they are welcome to bring their own. This small hotel is a sister property of the much heralded Windermere Estate in Munnar.
