A stay at Ayisha Manzil offers the opportunity to meet the delightful Moosa family and experience a homestay in northern Kerala. This modest colonial mansion is located on a hilltop in Thalassery, and was built in 1862 by Murdoch Brown, a spice trader with the East India Company. Accommodation comprises of 4 oversized rooms furnished with family heirlooms including antique rosewood furniture, chinaware and chandeliers. The comfortable beds are draped with mosquito nets in some rooms, while other rooms have a huge four-poster canopied bed in pure teak - a classic typical Mopilla bridal chamber or "Ara". Food is one of the highlights at Ayisha Manzil with the sumptuous home cooked traditional Moplah cuisine (usually featuring chicken / mutton biryani and seafood prepared with Arab influences) prepared under the guidance of Mrs Moosa and served to guests either in the main indoor communal dining room or privately in the tropical garden. This heritage home has a swimming pool where guests can relax. Local excursion options at Ayisha Manzil include a visit to a local temple to watch a ‘Theyyam’ dance performance – traditional art form where men become Gods and exorcise evil spirits and exploring the local fish market with Mrs Moosa.
