To the southwest, Nagaur is dominated by the 12th century Ahichattragarh Fort and is the focal point of the atmospheric World Sufi Spirit festival that is held every February. A westbound drive through the great Thar Desert reveals Jaisalmer’s historic ‘Golden Fortress’ – a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Separating the sweeping sand dunes of western Rajasthan from the picturesque lakeside town of Dungarpur are two delightful Rajasthani pearls: Narlai and Jawai Bandh. The former is close to the exquisite Jain Temple complex at Ranakpur, while the latter offering the enticing prospect of luxury living while searching for leopards! The scenic town of Dungarpur, which lies to the south of Udaipur, is a tranquil base for nature walks, soft treks and acts as a gateway to the state of Gujarat.
