Originally the hunting lodge of the Maharaja of Jaipur, the Vivanta by Taj – Sawai Madhopur Lodge is set among 12 acres of lush gardens and is located fifteen minutes away from the park entrance. Whilst the tents that were pitched for the Maharaja and his retinue have given way to rooms and suites with contemporary comforts; the art deco styled lodge that was built in 1930’s still houses the original dining room, bar and a lounge adorned with mounted tiger heads. The hotel’s 36 rooms and suites combine rustic charm with modern comforts, feature high-ceilings and are outfitted with bold animal print linens. Whilst some suites feature a private courtyard, the suites that occupy the first floor of the art deco style main building enjoy a spacious bedroom, a separate living room and a private terrace. Dining is a treat at Sawai Madhopur Lodge. The original table of the Maharaja still holds the pride of place at the main dining room; while G & T’s and cocktails are served at the dark wood-panelled watering hole. Leisure facilities at Vivanta by Taj – Sawai Madhopur Lodge include an outdoor pool, a fitness centre, spa offering treatments using techniques derived from Ayurveda and for those who can tear away from game drives to Ranthambore National Park – table tennis, croquet and pool table are also available.
