Malji Ka Kamra is a lovingly restored 1920’s haveli (merchant house) that retains many of its original features including the vibrant wall paintings; original doors and arches that reveal Mughal influences as well as wide colonnaded halls and verandas that showcase influences of classic European style mansions. This converted hotel offers accommodation in 11 meticulously kept rooms and suites that are tastefully furnished with essential modern comforts. While the 2 corner rooms are small and relatively simply furnished; the other rooms and suites feature hand-made beds; original, untouched frescoes and offer a glimpse back in time. Dining at Malji Ka Kamra is in the central covered hall where inviting local Rajasthani food prepared in a home-made style is offered. Private al-fresco dining can be arranged with advance notice. Activities on offer include a guided walk through the old town; rural train safari combined with a tour of the old havelis in the neighbouring villages of Ramgarh and Fatehpur as well as a camel-cart ride that concludes with a desert bonfire. It must be noted that hotel is staffed by locals from nearby villages. While all the staff are friendly, courteous and eager to meet guests’ requirements, it is important to be aware that standards of service are not always the same as elsewhere.
