Bhainsrorgarh Fort

Perched dramatically on a rocky promontory overlooking the Chambal River, Bhainsrorgarh Fort was built a fortified military outpost of the Mewar Kingdom and dates back to the 18th century. Surrounded by a typical rural Rajasthani village, Bhainsrorgarh served as a castle rather than a princely residence. Part of the fort’s appeal is that it hasn’t been over restored; while some of the turrets, terraces and steep-sided walls have been sensitively restored, other areas remain in an atmospheric state of ruin. Accommodation at Bhainsrorgarh Fort comprises of 5 suites spread over two floors within the castle and 4 rooms located within an outer courtyard. The rooms and suites have been adapted to meet the needs of the modern-day traveller; but during the restoration a conscious decision was taken to avoid the unnecessary luxuries so that the rooms retained some of their original martial character. Suites offer magical vistas of the surrounding countryside and the Chambal River, while the rooms overlook the village. Meals at Bhainsrorgarh often use locally sourced ingredients and are served either on the roof-top pavilion to take in the glorious views or in the formal dining room. Adding to the appeal of Bhainsrorgarh’s magical views and historic surroundings are a range of enticing experiences designed to acquaint you with the surroundings: take an early morning boat ride on the Chambal River, explore the rural villages by jeep; or try your hand at creating a typical Rajasthani meal. A stay at Bhainsrorgarh Fort offers guests the chance to escape from the usual tourist bustle and get under the skin of Rajasthan.
