Moored on the tranquil Nagin Lake, Gurkha’s six traditional wooden houseboats overlook the stunning Pir Panjal mountains and offer an attractive homespun atmosphere. Each intricately carved cedar-wood houseboat is elegantly decorated in traditional Kashmiri style and features up to 4 bedrooms with modern ensuite bathrooms, a large living room with delicate wood-carvings, comfortable sofas as well as hand-made furniture and a separate communal dining room. A small terrace at the prow of each houseboat and a roof-top deck are perfect spaces from which to relax, observe the local life, and enjoy the magnificent sunsets. For added comfort the houseboats all come with their own dedicated chef and English speaking butler. Meals aboard the Gurkha Houseboats are generally communal affairs during which predominantly traditional Kashmiri or Indian are served (pork and beef do not feature on the menus). Light sleepers should be aware that the bedrooms are not well soundproofed. For a supplement it is possible to book one of the Gurkha Houseboats on an exclusive basis.
