The stately Raj Mahal Palace in Jaipur is a spectacular palace-turned-hotel that is magnificently set amongst verdant gardens in the old city of Jaipur. Originally built in 1729 and later remodelled in the 1930s giving it an Art Deco style, this historic palace has played host to visiting royals including the Queen and Prince Philip as well as famous dignitaries such as Lord and Lady Mountbatten. Prior to being converted into a hotel in the 1980s, it was the private residence of Gayatri Devi – the late Maharani of Jaipur. Raj Mahal’s latest restoration has transformed it into one of Jaipur’s finest palace hotels.
