Built in the 19th century by a Scottish Tea Company and later passed on to one of India’s leading tea planting families, Glenburn’s story is interwoven with the history of tea in India. Accommodation at Glenburn Tea Estate comprises of eight rooms spread among two bungalows. The main Burra Bungalow dates back to 19th century and offers four lovingly restored and individually decorated rooms that open out on to a veranda, while the more recently built colonial-style Water Lily Bungalow features four additional light, airy and tastefully decorated rooms with period style furniture. The Dining Room is part of the Burra Bungalow and serves a range of traditional Indian, Oriental and Continental cuisine prepared using fresh herbs and vegetables picked from the estate’s vegetable garden. Guests usually tend to get together in the evenings for pre-dinner drinks and dinner; however, private dining can be arranged. Your stay at Glenburn is on full-board basis and includes all meals, snacks as well as soft drinks, local beers and spirits served at lunch and dinner. This peaceful retreat, which is just over an hour from Darjeeling, has two rivers running through the estate and is an excellent base for walks, soft treks with picnic lunches, rafting and fishing. There is also a simple 2-bedroom log cabin overlooking the river at the bottom of the estate that is available for guests to relax during the day or stay overnight for those seeking a real escape into wilderness.
