Inspired by Nepal’s rich cultural traditions, Dwarika's is a luxury heritage hotel, located a short distance from the heart of Kathmandu and a few minutes from the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath. The remarkable Dwarika’s Hotel has been family owned and run since its inception in the 1970s. Lovingly built using traditional Newari carved wood, red bricks and hand-woven textiles, Dwarika’s features 83 meticulously designed rooms and suites in four categories. All accommodation differs slightly in size and design and the comfortable Heritage Deluxe rooms are furnished with traditional handmade furniture and organically produced handwoven linens with many of the rooms facing the charming courtyard. For more spacious accommodation, we recommend the Heritage Junior Suites which have the added benefit of a relaxing divan daybed. Relax by the swimming pool or indulge yourself at the Pancha Kosha Himalayan Spa where treatments draw on Ayurveda, Buddhist medicine and traditional rituals and treatments. There is a yoga and fitness centre, offering a complimentary yoga class every morning, and a well-stocked library. When it comes to dining in, Dwarika’s offers a choice of three restaurants and a bar, including the legendary Krishnarpan - an evening at the Nepali speciality restaurant will take you on an exceptional culinary journey and is a not-to-be-missed experience.
The history of Dwarika's Hotel is intertwined with the life of its founder, Dwarika Das Shrestha. In the early 1950s, during a time when much of Kathmandu’s traditional carved wooden pillars, doors and window frames were being recycled into “better’ timber or reduced to firewood, Dwarika Das Shrestha began collecting every piece, without realising the importance it would take on in the future creation of Dwarika’s Hotel and in preserving Newari cultural heritage. Dwarika purchased the land upon which the hotel stands today in the late 1950s and built a small family home. Even then, his eye for historical detail and cultural heritage was incorporated into the design and the first antique window he used in the house can still be seen today in the hotel’s Fusion Bar. For a unique hotel experience, attentive service, delicious traditional Newari cuisine, and comfortable rooms, a stay at Dwarika’s rarely disappoints.
