Azraq Lodge is located in Jordan’s Eastern Desert and is an ideal base from which to visit the Azraq Wetlands, explore the Shaumari Nature Reserve, or discover the nearby Desert Castles. This simple yet characterful 18-room Ecolodge is managed by the RSCN (Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature) and combines two buildings: a 1940s British military field hospital, which is now used as the reception, restaurant and shop; and a brutalist-style two story accommodation block. The Ecolodge is staffed by welcoming locals from the Bedouin, Chechen and Druze communities and has an attractively decorated lobby featuring black and white photographs of the hospital during the time of the British mandate. Azraq Lodge’s spacious ensuite bedrooms have been simply furnished in the style of the former military hospital and feature a balcony from where you can watch the sunset over Azraq town and the desert. Dinning at the property is under the management of a local family who provide tasty buffets of home-cooked Chechen dishes – a nice break from the norm in Jordan. The lodge operates a shuttlebus operates to the nearby wetlands and has mountain bikes for hire. Guests at Azraq Lodge should be aware that alcohol is not served and there is occasional noise from the nearby military airbase.
