The historic Scots hotel is set overlooking the Sea of Galilee and located on the edge of the town of Tiberias. The property was opened by the Scottish Church in 2004 in the former compound of a 19th century Scottish Hospital and combines the original 19th century basalt buildings with a modern structure. Accommodation is in 39 somewhat dated rooms divided between the new and original buildings. Each room is equipped with plasma television set, coffee corner, hair-dryer, mini-bar and safe. The 20 Deluxe rooms are in the new building and have Scottish inspiration in their décor, while the 19 Antique rooms in the original buildings have a period feel and feature high ceilings and exposed basalt stonework. Antique rooms are divided between the house of the Scottish Hospital’s founder Dr David Watt Torrance, or the house of the Manse and Minster. Some rooms have lake views. The Scot Hotel’s attractive landscaped gardens and terraces extend down towards the Sea of Galilee and across a bridge to an outdoor (seasonal) swimming-pool. Onsite leisure facilities include the Lakeview Wellness Centre and Spa that is run by L’Occitane and is complete with a fully equipped gym, Turkish Bath, treatment rooms, and a relaxation room. Dining at the Scots Hotel is at the Torrance Restaurant where the buffets combine Israeli cuisine with Galilean cooking tradition and influences from Scotland. Light meals and a wide range of beverages can be enjoyed at The Ceilidh Bar. Tiberias’ lakefront promenade and a number of other dining options are within easy walking distance from The Scots Hotel.
