Steigenberger Cecil Hotel
Hotel category
Modest
The historic Steigenberger Cecil Hotel overlooks Alexandria's harbour and yacht club, and famously featured in Lawrence Durrell's 'Alexandria Quartet' books. The property, which has a superb location on Alexandria's corniche, was built in 1929 and possesses many attractive period features from Alexandria's pre-Second World War heyday. The 86 en suite rooms and suites are equipped with television, internet access, safety deposit box and mini-bar, but somewhat dated in appearance. The Steigenberger Cecil Hotel offers a choice of in-house dining options including its fine dining French restaurant, Plats D'Or. For a drink the Monty Bar (named after General Bernard Montgomery who was based at the Cecil Hotel for part of WWII), or the roof top bar with its superb views over Alexandria harbour, are the place to go. Additional facilities include a lobby gift shop.
