Despite Tunisia’s relatively modest size, the country has a varied topography and climatic conditions with coastal, mountain, and desert conditions all prevailing. Along the Mediterranean coastline the weather is characterised by hot summers and warm(ish) winters with some rain likely in the spring and autumn months. There is more rain (and even some snowfall) in the northern mountains. In central Tunisia, rainfall is lower and the temperatures more extreme both during the summer and winter than on the coast. The south experiences desert conditions with hot days, cold nights and little rain. The dry desert Gibli wind normally blows across the country in April creating dusty conditions. The best times to visit Tunisia are generally considered to be between March to June and Sept to November for the north, and September to March for the south.
