Southern Tunisia is a land noted for its dramatic desertscapes; wide expanses of glistening salt pans; astonishing Berber architecture; Eden-like oases; and the rippling dunes of the Sahara. It is also a road less well travelled with exciting opportunities for adventure. Starting in Tunis you will visit one of the finest medinas in the Arab world, then explore the ruins of ancient Carthage and walk through the picturesque whitewashed village of Sidi Bou Said. After flying south to the oasis of Tozeur, ride the 19th century train of the Bey of Tunis; discover the stunningly beautiful mountain oases; and visit the desert Star Wars film set at Ong Jemel. Then, cross the immense salt pan of the Chott el Djerid; and spend a night in an air-conditioned tent at Ksar Ghilane, a remote oasis brushed by the sands of the Sahara. Following a sunset camel ride across the dunes, the final leg of your journey will take you through an amazing landscape complete with troglodytic houses and curious fortified granaries to the sun kissed island known as the ‘land of dreams’ in Homer’s Odyssey - Djerba.

Tunisia: Oases & Sahara is a private tour. Subject to availability, the programme can operate based on an arrival in Tunis on any day of the week.
