The Historic Tunisia tour is a privately guided odyssey exploring the legacy of the country’s rich past and includes all seven of Tunisia’s cultural UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Starting in the capital Tunis, you will discover the ruins of ancient Carthage, once capital of empire, and walk through the intoxicating streets of the walled medieval medina. The great Roman ruins of Dougga and Bulla Regia in the former Numidian kingdom will also be visited, as will honey-coloured Sbeita in the pre-desert, and the magnificent amphitheatre of El Djem. On arrival in Kairouan you will be in the fourth most Holy City in the Muslim world and the home of the great Mosque of Okba. Complementing this grandiose Islamic architecture are the charming coastal fortified Arab cities of Sousse, Madhia, Monastir and Hammamet. The grand finale of the Historic Tunisia tour is a visit to Tunis’ magnificent Bardo Museum where some of the finest Roman mosaics and sculpture in the world are on display.
