Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are generally considered to be the best times to visit Syria. The country’s climate can be described in terms of three distinct regions. To the north and east the desert and plains experience very hot temperatures in summer and cold frosty, and even snowy, winters. Rain in this region is irregular but can bring flash floods. The mountains separating the plains from the coast experience a much higher rainfall than the plains and notable snow cover in the winter. The Mediterranean coast is hot and humid over the summer months and mild and wet with spells of good weather during the winter months. The beginning and end of summer can see the arrival of the hot and dusty Khamsin winds which can create a significant upward spike in the average monthly temperatures.
